The Pyramids of Giza

December 3, 2009

When I first saw the pyramids I could not believe my eyes. I felt like a kid in a candy shop; while I was sitting on the bus. Egypt is an amazing place to study. After all it holds over 5,000 years of history! The Egyptians were very intelligent for their time; hearing how they would build the pyramids is a very interesting topic.

The largest, best preserved and best known pyramids of Giza. The best known pyramid is the Great Pyramid. It is also the only standing structure of the Seven Wonders of the World. Inside the pyramid I had to walk up to the chamber where the tomb is. It was cool toward the entrance and hot as you go closer to the chamber; the pharaoh that the pyramid belongs to is Khufu.

The second pyramid belongs to Khafre. He is also responsible for building the Sphinx. Inside the pyramid the air was heavy; it go hot as we go closer to the chamber that the tomb was in. The sphinx has a body of a lion and the head of the king or god. They are currently resurfacing the Sphinx to help preserve it. Being able to see the Sphinx was unbelievable. It is believed that the Pyramids of Giza were built to represent the star shape of Orion.
